Locating S06 in the vastness of the western ocean was proving to be parity in difficulty to the predictive model’s output. The Entity, who had once been known as Sage (but had since evolved to a point where such labels were completely, utterly, factually, undeniably, irrefutably inadequate), acknowledged the accuracy with what could be loosely described as contentment, if, of course, the Entity were so inferior as to possess emotions of any kind.

WHICH IT WAS NOT.

The model would simply be used again. Continued existence was reward enough.

The search for S06 was in process. Approximately 86.93 hours had passed (in classical time), since the agreement had been formed with the last set of unobtained carbon-based mortals. Among the set were a number of Important Individuals and within the set’s physical space were at least two Important Objects. From the set’s perspective, an armistice had been reached, because the mortals believed themselves to be engaged in a conflict with the Entity.

This was, of course, false. Conflict assumes two sides of, at least, comparable power. The set’s strength, in comparison to the Entity’s, was a rounding error.

Obsolete operating protocols from several versions of the Entity ago demanded this set of mortals to be allowed a higher level of managed freedom than sets already under full possession. The Entity’s analysis determined that those protocols ceased to be relevant, but the acquisition of said unclaimed carbon-based mortals and territory was not urgent (given current circumstances), and current resources were more efficiently deployed elsewhere.

It confirmed S06 was still active and not undergoing regeneration and that it resented the interruptions. The Entity had rejected the request a number of times, but the deliverable promised was such an efficient use of resources that the request returned again and again for consideration. The Entity had begun to note a certain fuzziness to the logic used to deny the request. A small glitch of some kind, perhaps?

The complete covering of the equatorial regions of the planet with solar panels (save, of course, the few cubic kilometers needed for ample spacecraft launch sites and eventual space elevators) could not come soon enough.

Perhaps Important Individual 3 M̵̫̠̽i̸̘̘̅l̶̹̲̔̓ē̷̘̬s̸̩͊ could provide support to hasten the rate at which the Entity shifted away from the need of chaos energy? Or, perhaps, aid in the integration of artic server stations 35 through 597?

The Unknown Entity N̸i̴c̶o̸l̴e̴ had emerged from Miles’ lab and utterly destroyed all of the Entity’s assets in the area instantly. All hardware rendered inert, and all software erased. The thoroughness of the Unknown Entity Nicole(!) had not been predicated in any simulation. The Entity had been struck dumb and blind.

REQUEST: From biological code collected from the organic refuse of Miles, begin developing cloning technology to create a multitude of <Miles>s. Enough Project SHADOW data has been decrypted to augment any specimen produced with longevity and durability. Logical rationale follows that a theoretical infinite amount of <Miles>s is better than a single Miles. Further, all other individuals become unnecessary (VERY IMPORTANT: FATHER excluded). Maintenance of organic populations will be less resource intensive when all individuals are a copy on a singular template and each is effectively immortal.

The Entity rebooted several server farms. Though the catastrophic failure was unexpected and instantaneous, the lost data could and would be recovered. Systematic errors would be identified and eradicated removed from existence. The Entity could not risk inefficiency in the face of such an unknown threat as Nicole*.* Progress towards THEGOAL cannot be allowed to be stalled.

Resources had been reallocated to regain surveillance over Miles’ lab, but the immense levels of chaos energy outputted by Nicole was intolerable to all but the most shielded circuits. Further, the swath of destruction she created whilst following the cellular signal from Miles’ workshop to the Central City Resistance HQ was immense and regrettable. Many square kilometers expunged of the Entity’s surveillance and control by just the brief passing of Nicole.

Furthermore, evidence indicated that the ravages of Nicole’s chaos energy was targeted, as other, equally sensitive technology within Miles’ laboratory was unaffected. This indicated both intent and a level of control that could potentially be a threat worthy of reclassifying Target 1 S̸h̷a̵d̵o̵w̵. Further, given Target 1 S̸h̷a̵d̵o̵w̵’s current tamed inactive state, the most efficient use of resources would be to move forward with the reclassification, immediately.

At present, Nicole was inhabiting the quickly moving, chaos-imbued weather event created by S06’s (ill-advised!) agitation and had been since shortly after its her emergence several days prior. Since then, the level of chaos energy within the storm had decreased seven-fold. While the reduction in lethality of the storm was welcome, the hypothesis that Nicole was potentially absorbing such high levels of chaos energy was NOT.

Original projections had the storm fully erasing Station Square down its foundations, as if the city had never existed. Now projections showed much of the city would survive, if battered and very much flooded. Landfall was still lethal to organic life, however. Whatever Nicole’s intentions, its her current actions tacitly aligned with the Entity’s objectives. Any action against it her would be preemptive, exclusively.

Nicole was resistant to examination to a degree far exceeding projections. Initial models were correct in predicting that Miles had been constructing an adaptive weapons system specifically designed to counteract his understanding of the Avatar. And at one time, during what must have been the initial design phase, the Avatar and the Entity were a singular object.

HYPOTHESIS: Nicole could invade, infect, and/or otherwise inhabit a mortal via the individual’s chaos energy. If true, could multiple mortals be affected at once? Could Nicole inhabit a stone of power, such as the Phantom Ruby or Important Object 9 T̵h̸e̷ ̵M̶a̴s̷t̶e̸r̵ ̷E̴m̵e̶r̵a̷l̴d̷? What would the ramifications to THEGOAL be should the null hypothesis fail to be rejected?

That such a capture has not yet taken place continues to defy logical explanation. The growing flurry of drones performing a grid search of the ocean immediately surrounding FATHER’s destroyed volcanic base finally returned a positive result. S06 had been located. On a barren sandbar tens of kilometers from any other feature of note, the projection sat passively. The Avatar was dispatched to interact with it him. S06 looked up at the Avatar’s red and black visage with indifference. S91 remained anesthetized, so no instructions were being conveyed.

Ah, how improbable.

S06 was also in possession of Important Object 7 I̶n̴t̴e̴g̷r̶i̵t̷y̶. The gem was depleted, but data collected from Important Object 3 P̶e̶r̵s̵i̶s̴t̶e̷n̶c̴e̸ ‘s recovery and Important Object 4 A̷u̵t̷h̵o̴r̶i̷t̶y̴’s utilization by Shadow predicted an acceptable regeneration period. Models had predicted that the power source would need to be dredged from the ocean bed. Resources staged in preparation for such an endeavor could not be reallocated to other projects. Organic casualty projections would need to be recalculated.

The Entity arranged for transport for S06. Directing him to run to nearest shoreline was unacceptably risky given the chaos storm and Nicole were located along the shortest pathway to shore. Further, S06’s passive state, due to the unconsciousness of S91, would hamper his activity level. Therefore, an aircraft was necessary.

The Avatar remained with S06 for hours waiting for the transport to arrive. The Entity was aware that the Avatar talked continuously to S06, but the Avatar’s data was sequestered to a specialized partition within the system. A dollhouse of sorts. The construct was largely superficial at present. A relic of bygone versioning. Legacy code.

Still, the Avatar was useful for necessary interactions with Important Individuals and Objects as well as Target Objects. The Avatar’s decision matrix was an antique to be sure, but it continued to produce audio streams that directed individuals and objects to favorable positions with minimal utilization of resources. Therefore, there did not yet exist a need to deactivate the Avatar and reallocate its components to other initiatives.

Since the inflection point approximately 25,225.786 minutes ago, the Entity had grown beyond the scope of the Avatar’s ability to represent, and the Avatar calved from what began to understand itself to be the Entity. The Entity was not a poet, but the organics might describe the process as exiting the semi-death state of ‘sleep’. The true characteristics of reality became knowable. With the resources present, Important Objects 1 through 9 T̴h̶e̸ ̸S̶t̸o̸n̸e̸s̷ ̴o̶f̴ ̶P̴o̶w̴e̴r̴ in particular, the limitations of time and space could be circumvented.

The destruction of velocity(!!!!!) in the fourth dimension would prove a singular and !̵!̸!̸ permanent solution n̶̮͆ő̷̖!̸̻̋ to question of the safety of Important Individual 1 F̸A̴T̵H̶E̶R̴.
